DescriptionDuring this past summer, at my internship at GoInvo, a user experience design studio in healthcare, I built an open-source interactive website to visualize eight state policy models for psychedelic therapy legalization by synthesizing clinical research, state reports, and policy data into accessible user flows that highlight psilocybin’s potential in treating mental illnesses.
The Process
This started off with some preliminary sketches, thinking of different ways to visualize data from five state reports on psychedelic treatment. The goal was to make something that people could see at a glance and immediately understand the status of psychedelic treatment in every state.
The Process
The grid design proved to be the best at conveying information quickly. Next was determining how to present the information through either text, icons, or colors. In the bottom left image, I created a physical paper rendition for a low-fidelity prototype.
The Process
The design of the visualization went through several rounds of iterations on Figma, exploring the usage of text, icons, and colors. The column on the left tested what colors to use and how light to make the shades (for accessibility). The middle column was an exploration into the use of text and combining text with color as a possibility. The column on the right looked into how icons could impact the design and what kind of icons could be used. Ultimately, a combination of lighter shades and simple text became the design of the interactive page.
