3D Printed Dress (In Progress)
Softwares used Autodesk Fusion 360, Cura (Slicer)
Objective The following project is currently in progress. This 3D printed dress is being completed as an individual project at the Knapp Media and Technology Center (Wellesley’s Makerspace) in preparation for the annual MIT Gala, which is MIT’s student fashion show, hosted every year in the Spring. The purpose of this project is to create a 3D printed dress, in which the “fabric” of the dress is entirely 3D printed. The type of “fabric” chosen is chainmail because of its flexible nature. Even though it’s made of PLA, the flexibility of the chainmail should hopefully mold to the shape of a body.
The Process
The chainmail needs to be printed on a raft for proper adhesion, since there are so many small parts. Each section is being printed four at a time and will be linked together using wire to form larger pieces of the dress.
